today rich, jamie, and cam opted to tempt fate and bike down the most dangerous road in the world. i really just couldn´t be assed, so instead, chris caddy and i decided to have some drinks, head to the airport to finally get chris´ luggage (you should´ve seen his face), then try out la paz´s monday night life. the airport bit went so smooth, shout out to andres, our driver, and really put us in a good mood. mongos,¨gringo central,¨ was buzzing on saturday so we tried it out - ran into an aussie from rafting in cusco and an american from saturday night, but other than that, it was a dud. it was only 130am, there was plenty of night left, so we hailed a cab and asked for una discoteca que tienes muchas personas. he got on his radio and, after a short chat, was able to guarantee (cab free if he failed us) that he could bring us somewhere con muchas personas, muchas chicas, y muchas bolivianos. the first club he brought us too was a bit ass but the next was something i´d never experienced. we were, quite literally, the only white guys in the bar. before we even got in, a decent english speaker started chatting with us and brought me over to his table to meet his friends, and sister (who insisted i take her beer). i wasnt quite sure what was going on at this point, but it appeared as though people had come with their parents; there were loads of older people. actually, i am still very confused at what was going on. i don´t think cad and chris were too thrilled with the crowd, but i was definitely guilty of loving the attention. people would hand me beers to chat with them, which was often very confusing, due to my poor spanish and the loud music, but as long as i clung to lo siento, no entiendo and me gusta bolivia y bolivianos, everything was ace. dont get me wrong, i did try to communicate and i succeeded with some sentences - it was just very hard. i tried dancing to authentic bolivian music, again with varying degrees of success, and looking around i could see the locals smiling and apparently enjoying my effort. all in all, im glad i skipped the death road. i can just go mountain biking in bc anyways.
